Choosing the right assisted living community is a big decision, and we’re here to make the process clearer and more comfortable. Below are answers to some of the most common questions we receive from families and prospective residents.

What Questions Do Families Commonly Ask About The Converse Home?

The Converse Home is a private, non-profit organization.  We do not have an owner or stockholders and no one receives dividends or other compensation.  We are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and have been since we started in 1886.  All decisions about our community are made locally.

There is no fee to be on our wait list, we want the process to be as smooth as possible for you and your family member.  However, we do require a completed health questionnaire before adding one’s name to our wait list. 

Our Resident Agreement is month-to-month.  Our residents do not sign a long-term lease.

Yes, our residents are able to receive the care they need, in their apartment, by our staff, often in conjunction with one of the local hospice providers.

We participate in the Medicaid ERC program for our residents and would be happy to speak with you about our requirements.

Yes, arrangements can be made for transportation to medical appointments. Residents are entitled to four free 20-mile round-trip drives per month. Please provide as much notice as possible because we cannot provide transportation if the day is fully booked.

On move-in day, residents receive a Lifeline call pendant or wristband. If they need immediate assistance due to a fall or illness, they can push the Lifeline button to alert the nursing staff immediately.

Visitors are welcome at any time. If you plan to take a resident out for an overnight or longer visit, please let the Nursing Department know 24 hours in advance so they can prepare medications and other necessities.

Yes. Our guest table can accommodate up to four people total. There is a fee associated with guest meals in the Traditional or Gardenview dining rooms. Visitors are also welcome to bring a meal and join residents in their apartment or the sunroom at any time.
