Established in 1886, we are one of the longest operating non-profits in Vermont, providing housing and services to seniors for over 120 years.
Following an expansion and renovation project completed in 2005, we offer state-of-the-art accommodations in our 50 residential apartments, while still maintaining the historic charm and home-like atmosphere for which we are well-known.
We also offer a 16-room community, Gardenview, specially designed for residents with Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of memory impairment. Gardenview offers a peaceful, therapeutic setting that includes an enclosed garden for residents and their guests to enjoy.
With roots in the late 1700’s, The Converse Home holds a place on the Historic Register. This was the site of William Harrington’s home, who was a trustee for the University of Vermont. It was in his home that the UVM bylaws were signed. In 1832 it became the site of the Vermont Episcopal Institute for Boys. And later, Rev. John Converse established the Burlington Female Seminary here. During the Civil War the site was also a stop on the Underground Railroad. The Converse Home has been at this location since the 1930’s.
